Having recalled products and appliances in your home can put you and your family at risk, which makes it critical that you stay on top of all recall announcements. While the end of winter means that you likely will not have a problem staying warm in the coming weeks, it is still important that you are aware of a recent recall if you own any Heat Hero portable heaters. If you have any Heat Hero products in your home, here is what you need to know about this recall.

About The Recall

On April 17, 2019, Heat Hero LLC recalled roughly 20,000 portable plug-in mini heaters sold throughout the United States and Canada from October 2018 through March 2019. These heaters have been recalled due to the fact that the units can overheat, smoke, and even catch fire, which can pose a serious risk to consumers. In fact, at the time in which the recall was announced the manufacturer had received 117 reports of the heaters overheating including 47 units that started smoking and ten units that caught fire; two of these fires resulted in significant property damage. Fortunately, at the time the recall was announced, no injuries had been reported as a result of these incidents.

The Recalled Products

The recall affects Heat Hero ceramic 350W space heaters. The units are black and measure roughly 10 inches tall by 5 inches wide. The units were sold online at Shop.buyheathero.com, and they cost between $35 and $45. These heaters have an LED digital screen, four buttons, a front grill, and a Heat Hero logo on the product packaging.

What You Need to Do

If you believe that your mini space heater may have been affected by the recall, it is critical that you stop using and unplug the unit in order to prevent a fire. You will then need to contact Heat Hero who will be willing to provide a replacement free-of-cost including the cost of shipping, and they will provide you with instructions on how to properly dispose of the defective unit.
